When we arrive home from work after a busy day, we do not desire to begin another set of work. As a professional work when you leave for home, that should be the last link to your job until the next day, not unless you yearn for promotion and choose to utilize your weekends and evenings to show you are well-suited for the vacancy. However, for an ordinary employee, work ought to end at the place of work. Likewise, after a child has spent a better part of the day at school learning, arriving home in the evening should be their free time. Free to engage in other inspiring tasks for their development and be out of the school environment and routine duties.

Origin of homework

The end of the 19th century is replete with considerable changes in the education sector. Among these changes are the frequency and the type of homework given by a teacher, which are affecting the quality of education. School going children started taking their schoolwork home from the beginning of the 20th century, a time when culture underwent a radical change. According to numerous reports, homework is a way of expanding the mind. According to the psychologist, the brain is like a muscle, and with appropriate mental exercise, we can reinforce. The purpose was to develop speaking skills in an informal atmosphere.

Moreover, apparently for some good or bad reasons, a decision arrived that we do mind-strengthening exercises at home. Others also believe that homework was initially a form of punishment for children who failed to do their assignments in class or those who misbehaved. Besides, over time, homework became universal, and all students completed, regardless of their behavior in school. Wherever the truth lies in the evolution of homework assignments, the majority of children dislike homework with passion. In some instances, teachers give a lot of homework to students, and small children spend their evenings and nights doing them, and they end up losing their social lives. A few students like homework assignments, and they complete them not by force but with love and out of choice.

Conclusion

There is a study demonstrating the correlation between student achievements and homework assignments. However, the study did not consider if the results will be better, the same or worse, if we allocate students one hour of school time to complete homework assignments. It is a good idea to allow children to review their textbooks, but it does not make any sense for children to go to school five days a week, spending the better part of the day, and then they troop home in the evening with lots of homework assignments. Homework not only burdens children, but it also reduces them to overworked machines. Excelling in life is not about getting top grades only. Students at their formative ages should learn to interact with peers and acquire innate skills to help them later in their lives. Home is a different environment from the school where we should allow our children to develop and partake in varied creative, fulfilling, and challenging activities. They enable children to do homework at home is to rob them of their fun activities and freedom. Parents should take charge of their children’s actions when they are at home and prevent extended school assignments from reaching home and directing how children use their time while at home.
